Recommended by Joseph, I read this book written by DM Thomas, in which Freud was depicted as the analyst for a woman with hysteria. I am sure this book satisfies Freud’s fans as it contains lengthy details of analysis.
I expected the whole book to be about Freud and his patient and the analysis, somewhat like a case study, but no. Freud disappeared midway and the rest was about the woman’s life and career after treatment and the subsequent Holocaust. Not that it’s badly written, but it was just way out of my expectation of the book and I felt I was cheated - where was Freud? To me, the first part and the second part of the book can be completely separated - the hysteria of the woman had nothing much to do with her experience of the Holocaust.
I dislike the last chapter on afterlife. I think this is just silly.

may be i should re-read it again to see whether my taste has changed (the last time i read it must be almost 10 years ago).
by the way, cindy read the curious incident of the dog and loved it very much. when i told her what i thought of the book, she frowned: “do you have to be so cynical?”
Haha, Cindy is my ally.
I thought you must have been disappointed too that Freud only appeared in half of the book?
not really.
hey, who’s behind the shrub?!
