紐約受怪獸襲擊，幾個在開派對的人被迫逃難，並以dv機拍攝整個過程。
我不介意影片「無頭無尾」， 甚至認為導演勇氣可嘉，但全片模擬手提dv機拍攝，而主角又不停逃跑，觀眾看得頭昏眼花之餘，特技又不甚出色；雖不能稱為爛片，也很難打高分。

In England in 1935, a 13-year-old girl Briony with vivid imagination accuses Robbie Turner (James McAvoy), son of the housekeeper and lover of her sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley), of raping her cousin. This false accusation alters the lives of everyone.
The film had sensational cinematography and the music score which blended with typewriter’s sounds was very impressive. However, I didn’t really fancy much the second part of the movie when there were elaborate and extravagant war scenes which probably were used to emphasise the suffering of Robbie, who would have been studying in medical school if he had not been sent to prison. The cruelty of the war served to remind the audiences how remote the hopes of reunion were for the lovers, for they were not only separated geographically, but they could also be separated by death any minute. I feel that the movie would have been more balanced if more portrayal of Cecilia’s misery from a rich spoiled lady into a tough nurse was included.
The movie title Atonement of course referred to what Briony did, or tried to do to “get things right”, but they were good for nothing except perhaps to pacify her own conscience.
January is named after Janus, the god of gates, doors, beginnings and endings.
Janus had two faces, one looking forward, the other looking back.
I have decided not to do a review of 2007 this year, since I found that it’s not something cheering to do to start a new year by looking at your mistakes again. They can’t be corrected anyway now. Let’s just look forward in 2008.
